Pineville, NC - Johnson & Wales University Men's Soccer Team capped off the athletic events for Homecoming Weekend with a match against Piedmont International University. In a rematch of a 4-3 JWU double overtime win earlier in the season, the Wildcats again tallied four goals en route to a 4-1 victory.
JWU (9-1) started the scoring early, recording the first goal in the 9th minute. Sam Fanning received the long ball from Ariel Morales before turning and playing Weeb Isaac down the right flank. Isaac's Cross found a streaking Shawn Geiger who headed home the finish. Ten minutes later, PIU (3-9) Would answer with a goal of their own. The Wildcats would go into halftime with a 2-1 lead thanks to a Tito Villanueva finish on a Chance Wiginton cross in the 41st minute.
The #1 Wildcats again started strong in the second half, when Isaac found the head of Chris Garcia in the 51st minute. Tito Villanueva would cap the scoring for JWU when his shot found the net in the 83rd minute on a Gunner Tootle assist.
"The guys played great today and I'm really proud of the team effort," commented Head Coach Matt Payne. "The boys embraced all phases of the game and put together what I think is our most complete performance yet."
JWU next travels to Warren Wilson College on Oct. 30 for a 4:00 pm match.
