Virginia Beach, VA - The JWU Men's Soccer Team played their second pool play game of the 2018 USCAA D2 National Championships. The Wildcats' strong second half performance led to a 5-0 victory over King's College (NY).
A heavy wind blew into the face of the Wildcats in the first half, but after a scramble in the box, Jonathan Fucci flicked the ball to Sam Fanning for the opening goal in the 43rd minute. The Wildcats (13-1) took control of the game in the second half, and broke through on a Weeb Isaac goal on an assist from Chance Wiginton. 8 minutes later, Wiginton found the net himself as a beautiful build-up culminated in a Connor Savageau cross for a Wiginton finish. Brandon Greene finished the scoring for JWU with goals in the 74th and 79th minute, the first of which came on a Iseiah Washington assist.
"I'm really happy with the second half performance today. We had to overcome some adversity with the wind int the first half, but the guys settled down and played really well," remarked Head Coach Matt Payne. "We picked up a lot of significant injuries in group play, but I trust everyone on this roster to step up when their name is called."
#1 JWU plays in the USCAA D2 National Championship on Monday, Nov. 12 at 4:00 pm at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex against the winner of Pool B.
