Charlotte, NC - JWU Men's Soccer Coach Matt Payne has announced Alberto Olivas-Vazquez as the latest addition to the 2019 recruiting class. Olivas-Vazquez last competed for Brevard College in the 2017-2018 season, where the defender started 13 games as a freshman. Prior to Brevard, Olivas-Vazquez was a standout for Bunker Hill High School, where he was recognized as an All-Conference performer three times. The Claremont, NC native also played club soccer for YMCA of Catawba Valley Soccer Club Eagles.
Olivas-Vazquez is the son of Jose and Alma Olivas, and plans to major in Business Administration. In high school, he was a member of the Beta Club and National Society of High School Scholars.
"I love the Charlotte area and JWU is in the heart of it," reflected Olivas-Vazquez on his choice of JWU. "I'm hoping to get multiple opportunities, not only in soccer but in life. JWU is very diverse, and I feel like they'll be able to fulfill what I am looking for. Also, the faculty was informative and helpful through the process."
"I have been recruiting Alberto for a while, as I saw him as a perfect addition to our squad," commented Coach Payne. "The more I got to know him, the more impressed I was by him off of the field: his organization, his resourcefulness, his time management were all exceptional. I am glad to add such a mature presence to our team as we seek to take the next step as a program."
