Men’s Soccer Falls To PIU For First Loss Of Season

Charlotte, NC - The JWU Men's Soccer Team took on rival Piedmont International University on Saturday night. The Bruins were too much for the Wildcats as JWU was handed their first defeat of the season. The 3-1 loss marked the first home defeat for the JWU Men's Soccer Program in 1,075 days.

The Bruins opened the scoring in the first half when Francisco Tapia capitalized after a scrum in the box. The Wildcats would answer in the second half when Chance Wiginton headed home the free kick service. PIU (2-1-1) would get back on the front foot, with two impressive strikes from Jason Mejia Moreno and Brayan Gomez.

"We didn't execute today. We lacked the team commitment needed to face a quality opponent," said JWU Head Coach Matt Payne. "Credit to PIU. They have some really dangerous players and they showed up tonight."

JWU moves to 5-1 on the season. The Wildcats return to the field on September 19th at 7:00 pm as they host USCAA opponent The Crown College.
