Men's Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season With Road Win

Norfolk, VA - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte Men's Soccer Team played Regent University in their regular season finale on Sunday. The Wildcats came away with a 5-2 result thanks to three second half goals.

The Wildcats opened the scoring when Chance Wiginton cut inside on his right foot and finished past the goalkeeper. A few minutes later, Weeb Isaac would beat his man and smash the ball into the box, deflecting off of the keeper to make it 2-0. The Royals would answer, as Trey Colley and Kameron Payne both scored to take it into halftime 2-2. The second half, though, was all Wildcats. Shawn Geiger would win a header off of a JWU corner kick that deflected off of the post, but Christian Garcia cleaned ut up to put JWU ahead with his first collegiate goal. Tito Villanueva would also tally for the Wildcats to double the Royals' score, 4-2. The punctuation came in the last minute of play when Zack Savage beat the keeper one vs one for his team leading eighth goal of the season.

"I was really pleased with the guys' second half response," said JWU Head Coach Matt Payne. "We played poorly against a very athletic team in the first half, and the second half was exactly what we needed heading into nationals."

The Wildcats enter the USCAA National Championships as the #2 seed and are scheduled to play #6 Penn State University Beaver on November 8th at 4:45 pm and #3 Berkeley (NJ) on November 9th at 4:45 pm.
