Men's Soccer Falls 3-2 In Overtime Thriller

Virginia Beach, VA - The JWU Men's Soccer Team concluded group play on Saturday with a match against #3 Berkeley College New Jersey. After going down 2-0, the Wildcats would fight back to make it 2-2 before falling in overtime to the Knights, 3-2.

The Knights would jump on JWU early when Robins Ettiene scored in the 7th minute. BCNJ would double their lead in the 13th minute when Esteban Pedrueza's free kick found the net. The Wildcats would answer 1o minutes later with a goal of their own coming from junior Weeb Isaac. Shortly before halftime Shawn Geiger would bring the game level with a goal of his own in the 38th minute.

The second half was back and forth as both teams created chances, but both keepers would make important saves to force overtime. In overtime, Chance Wiginton came close to sending the Wildcats through to the final, but Robert Parker claimed the shot for the Knights. On the ensuing play, the Knights would capitalize on a loose ball in the box to claim the golden goal victory, 3-2.

The Wildcats' fate will come down to the result of the Penn State Beaver vs Berkeley New Jersey game on Sunday afternoon, with elimination and survival both still viable options.

"I love these guys, and tonight we're all hurting after such a close loss," said JWU Head Coach Matt Payne. "We'll monitor the results tomorrow but I'm proud to coach such a great group of young men, regardless of tomorrow's outcome."
