Men's Soccer Adds Hickory Ridge's Whichel

Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte men's soccer team has added another local standout. Head Coach Matt Payne announced Colby Whichel as the newest member of the 2020 recruiting class.

Whichel is a defender from Harrisburg, NC where he captained Hickory Ridge High School for coach Sean Noble. At Hickory Ridge, he was a recipient of the Coach's Award and was also a Southwestern 4A All-Conference selection. Whichel plays club soccer for Coach Dave Crutchfield at Charlotte Independence Soccer Club.

"I chose JWU because I like the location and it being close to home," commented Whichel. "I also like how they set you up to get a job post graduation."

Colby is the son of Brent and Charlene Whichel, and plans to major in Business.

"Colby is a great addition to our program. He is a versatile and talented player that plays with a hard-nosed commitment," remarked Coach Payne on the signing. "Hickory Ridge has provided us with some great players in Weeb Isaac and Jack Watters. We are excited for Colby to continue that tradition."
