Hickory Ridge Pipeline Continues As Watts Joins Men's Soccer

Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales Charlotte Men's Soccer Coach Matt Payne welcomes Mark Watts to the 2020 recruiting class.

The left back has played for Charlotte Soccer Academy, but concluded his club career on the Charlotte Independence Soccer Club National Premier League team under Rupert De los Reyes.

"I love the city of Charlotte, and I love soccer, and Johnson and Wales is able to give me both of those things while giving me the degree of my choice," commented Watts on his commitment. Mark is the son of Nicole and Charlie Miller and plans to pursue a business degree at JWU.

Watts hails from Harrisburg, NC where he attended Hickory Ridge High School. He served as a captain for the Bulls during his senior year. He recognized the investment of some of his coaches at Hickory Ridge, who were pivotal to his success. "Everyone loved Coach Patt [Ricky Patton], my coach my freshman year of high school. Coach [Sean] Noble came in and has been a huge help in me achieving my dream of playing college soccer. He has been a role model to me."

"We are happy to add Mark to the family at JWU. He is a tough player that is always pushing himself to reach the next level. He is a hard-nosed, no-nonsense defender with a nice left foot," remarked Coach Payne. "Mark joins Colby Whichel in carrying on the pipeline from Hickory Ridge to Johnson & Wales, joining Jack Watters and Weeb Isaac. That's four former Bulls that we are proud to call Wildcats."
