Charlotte, NC - JWU Charlotte Men's Soccer Coach Matt Payne announced Juan Santana-Urieta as the newest member of the 2021 recruiting class.

Santana-Urieta comes to Charlotte from Garner, NC where he was a standout for Garner Magnet High School. In 2017, he was honored as Offensive Player of the Year for Garner, and he led the team in goals in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 seasons. He was selected to the Greater Neuse River Conference All-Conference Team in 2017, and was All-Conference for the South Wake Athletic Conference in 2018 and 2019. After his senior season, the midfielder was selected as Most Outstanding Player for GMHS. Santana-Urieta played his club soccer for Carolina Velocity under Andy Thompson and Robbie Hill, two coaches he says helped him "develop as a player and an individual."

"The campus is in an eye catching location. The school offers a variety of opportunities from their top marketing programs as well as to be able to be a part of their amazing & growing soccer program," replied Santana-Urieta when asked why he chose Johnson & Wales, Charlotte. "After speaking with Coach Payne, he made the process as simple as possible going over everything as detailed as it could be, so to me, he was a huge factor in my decision to choose JWU."

Juan is the son of Agustin Santana & Maria Urieta. An A/B Honor Roll designee and an Honors Graduate, Juan plans to major in Marketing at Johnson & Wales.

"Juan is another exciting, versatile prospect. He brings great experience on the pitch, and every coach we spoke with raved about his work ethic to improve every day," commented Coach Payne. "On top of his abilities as a student and athlete, it's been a joy getting to know him personally during this process."
