CHARLOTTE, NC -- Johnson & Wales Charlotte Men's Soccer Coach Matt Payne announced Nicholas Smith as the team's newest signing in the 2020 recruiting class. Smith is aMooresville, NC native. He was a two year varsity letterwinner for Mooresville High School and was recognized as All-Iredell County and I-Meck All-Conference. The 6'1" defender played for Lake Norman Soccer Club under Stephen Chaconas before playing his senior year for Coach Payne's ECNL team at Charlotte Independence Soccer Club.
Nicholas is the son of Tracey and Brian Smith and plans to major in Business. "I chose to be at JWU so I can stay close to home while being able to get an education and continue my soccer career with friends and coaches," replied Smith when asked why he selected Johnson & Wales.
"Nick is such a great addition to our program. He's got a bold personality in his play, and he provides great levity off the field," said Coach Payne on Smith. "He was a constant at the back for my club team, and he's just begun to scratch the surface of his ability. He's the type of player that gets better every day, and we're excited to work with him and to welcome he and his family to JWU."
