Central Cabarrus's Cabrera Joins JWU Men's Soccer

Charlotte, NC -- Johnson & Wales Charlotte Men's Soccer Coach Matt Payne announced Diego Cabrera as the next member of the 2021 recruiting class. The defender from Concord, NC helped lead Central Cabarrus High School to a conference championship his junior year and was a South Piedmont Conference All-Conference selection his senior year. Additionally, he played club soccer for Broncos United FC under coaches Scott Wagner and Napoleon Carachurre.

"I chose JWU Charlotte because of its closeness to home and how focused they are on their education," commented Cabrera on choosing Johnson & Wales. "I also just really had the urge to be on Coach Payne's soccer program and be a Wildcat! I'm glad I chose JWU."

Diego is the son of Jose Cabrera and Beatriz Mendoza and plans to major in Business Management. He was a Magna Cum Laude graduate, graduating with a GPA above 4.0.

"We are happy to welcome Diego to JWU. He will be a great addition to the family," said Coach Payne. "He's the type of student-athlete that will contribute on the field, in the locker room, and in the class room. We're adding a super intelligent, hardworking young man, and I'm just glad to be a part of his journey toward excellence."
