Charlotte, NC -- The Johnson & Wales Lady Wildcats Basketball Team got the first win in program history Friday night in the first game of the JWU Tip-Off Classic. The Wildcats defeated USCAA member The College of St. Joseph by a score of 75-65. JWU shot 40% from beyond the three-point line and had four players in double-figures on the night for a well-rounded, team victory for the Wildcats.
Vanderia Shackleford came off the bench to lead the Wildcats with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Courtney Pate had a strong guard performance with 18 points and 3 assists. Justina Tyler went 3-for-4 from the three-point line and scored 14 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Donyelle Stuetley was a force inside with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Audresha Merritt, coming off a double-double last night, had 13 total rebounds for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats (1-1) now turn their attention to the Penn State -- Fayette Roaring Lions, another USCAA opponent, as the JWU Tip-Off Classic continues. Game time is 5:00 PM Saturday.
