Laurinburg, NC -- In a rematch of the season opener, the Lady Wildcat Basketball Team visited St. Andrews University Wednesday evening. The first game between the two teams was intense game where the Wildcats and Knights put on a show with solid basketball on both ends of the floor. St. Andrews escaped with a ten-point win in that game, and the Wildcats were looking forward to another shot at the Knights. After falling behind 21-5 in the first half, though, it was a tough night for the Wildcats as they had to play from behind virtually all night. They eventually cut the lead to as few as five points, but the initial gap proved too much to overcome, and the Knights came away with the victory by a score of 71-57.
The Lady Wildcats did not shoot particularly well on the night, posting an overall shooting percentage of 29.1%. However, their three-point shooting kept them in the game as they hit 50% of their shots from long distance. Marketa Smalls led the Wildcats with 15 points. Justina Tyler with 12 points and Vanderia Shackleford with 10 points were the other two Wildcats in double-figures. JWU is now 3-4 on the season and travels to Coastal Carolina to take on the Division I Chanticleers tomorrow evening at 7:00 PM. Video of the game is available online, and the link is posted on the JWU Women's Basketball schedule page.
