Charlotte, NC -- Fresh off their first appearance in the JWU Cup in North Miami last weekend, the Johnson & Wales Lady Wildcat Basketball Team visited Johnson C. Smith University for the "Education Day" game with the Lady Golden Bulls. Johnson C. Smith hosted school students from the area, and the teams played for the students on hand in a special day game.
The Wildcats were within striking distance at halftime, only behind by nine points after shooting 33.3.% from the field and limiting Johnson C. Smith's offensive attack. The Golden Bulls heated up in the second half, though, and were able to pull away. The final score was 82-51. The Wildcats shot 85.7 % from the free throw line, a marked improvement from the weekend. They also held Johnson C. Smith to 25% shooting from beyond the arc.
Vanderia Shackleford led the Wildcats with 12 points and 5 rebounds. The Wildcats enter the holiday break at 3-9. Their next game is a crucial match-up with USCAA foe Warren Wilson in a doubleheader on January 8. The women's teams play at 5:30, and the men's teams will follow at 7:30 PM.
