JWU Sweeps Mid-Atlantic Christian Doubleheader

Elizabeth City, NC -- The Johnson & Wales Men's and Women's Basketball Teams made the trip to Mid-Atlantic Christian University Friday evening for a USCAA doubleheader.  In the same match-up earlier in the season, JWU swept both games.  They produced the same result tonight, winning both games and adding to the recent momentum both teams have gained throughout January.

The women's game was a team effort with all players on the roster getting minutes.  The Wildcats led by twelve points at halftime and held their largest lead at twenty-one points in the second half.  The final score was 70-57.  Jaquana Pauling continued her powerful play and led the Wildcats with 20 points and 9 rebounds.  Vanderia Shackleford had 13 points, and Courtney Pate added 12 for JWU.  The team went 3-3 in the month of January, but their three losses were by a total of ten points.  The Lady Wildcats are now 6-12 on the season, and their resume includes a six-point victory earlier in the season over current USCAA Division II #1 St. Joseph.

The previous game between the men's teams was a thirty-point victory for the Wildcats.  JWU started strong in this game as well and held a 46-19 lead at halftime due to great defense and impressive rebounding.  The Wildcats got great support from the bench and turned up the heat in the second half to cruise to a forty-three point victory by a score of 95-52.  This is the fifth win in the month of January for the Wildcats, who have a 5-1 record in 2015 and are now 11-10 on the season.  Rickey Porter led JWU with 16 points, and Tramain Parker, Tolbert Holmes, and David Bargamento each had 14.  Rickey Porter and Tolbert Holmes were each one rebound short of a double-double as they had 9 rebounds apiece.  Tramain Parker added 7 blocks and 5 assists in a strong all-around effort.

The teams will head to Columbia International University on Thursday, February 5 for another doubleheader.  The women will play at 5:30 PM with the men to follow at 7:30 PM.
