Concord, NC -- The JWU teams made the short trip to Concord to take on Barber-Scotia College Monday evening. It was the final game of the season for the Lady Wildcats, and they gave up a conventional three-point play in the closing seconds to lose their game 55-54. The men held off an aggressive Saber club for another USCAA win by a score of 64-55.
The JWU Women's Team finishes its inaugural season at 10-14. Against Barber-Scotia, the team saw some of its regular scorers struggle to produce, but strong efforts from Jaquana Pauling and Donyelle Stuetley kept the Wildcats in the game. Pauling logged another double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds, and Stuetley had 18 points to go with 9 rebounds. JWU led 28-17 at the half, but they were unable to withstand Barber-Scotia's push to retake the lead. After starting the season 4-1, the team had a very rough December, but they bounced back in 2015. They recorded six more wins in January and February, and their six losses during that time were all by six points or fewer against quality competition. With all but two players on the roster ready to return, the Lady Wildcats are primed to make some noise in their second season.
The JWU Men's Team continued its hot streak with another win over the Sabers. The Wildcats won the earlier match-up between the two by 19 points, but the Sabers have shown strong play over their past few contests and came into this game with confidence. Nick Crawford flirted with a triple-double as he ran the Wildcat offense with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists. Tramain Parker turned in another impressive stat line himself with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 blocks. The Wildcats improve to 18-10 and can finish 2014-2015 with their first 20-win season if they win their final two games this week.
The Wildcats are at home this week on Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday's game is the rescheduled game from last week's postponed match-up with College of Faith. Game time is 7:30 PM. Prior to Tuesday's game, fans are invited to join the Wildcats in the Wildcat Den at 5:30 PM for the viewing of the USCAA Division II Bracket Unveiling to see if the Wildcats are eligible to play for a national championship. Thursday's season finale against Columbia International University is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
