Charlotte, NC - The JWU women's basketball team hosted EMAC opponent The Apprentice School on Tuesday. Despite an off shooting night, the Wildcats came away with the 55-50 victory.

It was a defensive battle from the beginning, with both teams shooting under 30% for the game. The #5 Wildcats used a 14 point advantage in points off of turnovers and a 14 point bench scoring advantage to seal the victory over the Builders (2-9).

Ineesha Hankerson scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead JWU. Bianca Covington added 10 rebounds while Kiara Lloyd chipped in with 5 assists.

"Apprentice was a tough opponent, as I knew they would be. We faced a lot of adversity, but we continued to defend and that was key. It can be really tempting to lose focus defensively when the ball isn't going in, but we kept competing and then we knocked down a couple of shots," reflected Interim Coach Aram Parunak. "We are excited to have some time off but we have a lot of work still to do. Thanks to the JWU community for your continued support. "

JWU returns to action on Jan. 11 for a road contest against Piedmont International University. That game is slated for a 6:00 pm tip-off.
