Charlotte, NC - JWU Women's Basketball Coach Ashley Raley-Ross has announced Essence Houser as the first signing of the 2020 recruiting class.
Houser hails from Kings Mountain and represents Kings Mountain High School, where she was part of the 2018-2019 Big South 3A Conference champions. The guard also plays AAU basketball for the NC GEMS.
The daughter of Jessica and Corey Houser, she has twice been recognized for earning a 3.75 or greater GPA. She plans to major in Culinary Arts and Business Administration.
"I chose JWU because it is the BEST culinary school by far," responded Houser when asked why she chose Johnson & Wales Charlotte. "Coach Ashley put the finishing touch on my decision with the time and effort she put into recruiting me and building a relationship with me."
"We are excited to add Essence to our JWU Women's Basketball family. We envision Essence being a high motor, versatile, lock down defender for us on the perimeter," commented Raley-Ross on the signing. "Essence possesses a tremendous work ethic that is going to help her flourish not only in our culture but also in the classroom at JWU. We are thankful she made the decision to be a Wildcat!"
