Women's Basketball Falls To #2 Mustangs In Quarters

Uniontown, PA - The JWU Charlotte Women's Basketball Team was eliminated from the USCAA D2 quarterfinals on Monday, falling 79-63 #2 Central Maine Community College.

The Mustangs jumped to an early lead with a 21-10 first quarter, and stretched the lead to 12 at the break, 40-28. The Wildcats responded in the third, closing the gap to 45-37. JWU got as close as 4 points in the final stanza, but Central Maine pulled away in the last period, outscoring the Wildcats 24-16.

JWU had a strong defensive effort in the defeat, holding CMCC to 36% shooting, including 4 of 32 from three, but the Mustangs managed 24 more field goal attempts than the Wildcats. JWU also held the rebounding advantage 55-42, and outscored Central Maine 22-11 in second chance points.

Justice Wallace paced the Wildcats with 18 points, and also added 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Micah Thomas had 14 points and 9 rebounds while Jamyah Montissol had 11 points and 5 steals for JWU.

Johnson & Wales will play University of Maine Machias in the consolation bracket on Tuesday, March 10th at 10:00 am.
