Charlotte, NC - Jayla Lovett is the newest member of the JWU Charlotte Women's Basketball team as Head Coach Ashley Raley-Ross welcomes her as part of the 2020 recruiting class.

Lovett matriculates to Charlotte from Columbia, SC, where she competed for Irmo High School. The shooting guard was recognized as the Yellow Jackets' Most Improved Player in 2018-2019, before making the Girls Basketball 4-5A All-Region Team her senior year. She was also honored as a 2019-2020 All-Chronicle Country Girls Basketball 1st Team selection, and was selected to play in the All Star Hoops Festival. In addition to her career at Irmo, Lovett has also represented Lady Team South Carolina in AAU basketball.

When asked why she chose Johnson & Wales, Lovett responded, "I chose JWU Charlotte because JWU and Coach Raley-Ross made me feel at home. I felt it is the place I need to be."

Jayla is supported by her father, James Lovett IV, her mother, Kiona Lovett, and Ricardo Phillip. She plans to major in Sports Management.

"Jayla is a tremendous asset to our JWU Family & Women's Basketball Culture. She brings a commitment & work ethic that is second to none," commented Raley-Ross. "Academically & athletically, Jayla is going to flourish in our system. I am excited that Jayla is a Wildcat!"
