Women’s Basketball Adds Shelby’s Dorsey

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Johnson & Wales Charlotte Women's Basketball Coach Ashley Raley-Ross added Shelby, NC native Aalyasia Dorsey to the 2020 recruiting class. The 5'8" shooting guard is transferring to JWU from Mid-Atlantic Christian University. As a freshman in 2019-20, Dorsey averaged 13.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for the Mustangs. She graduated from Crest High School in 2019, where she averaged double-digit scoring in two of her three years as a member of the varsity team. In addition to the basketball team, she also represented Crest on the volleyball court, and played AAU basketball for NC Lady Gems.

"I chose to come JWU Charlotte to continue to grow while being close to family," said Dorsey when asked why she chose Johnson & Wales. "I felt at home because everyone was extremely welcoming, nice, & helpful."

Aalyasia is the daughter of Carissa Dorsey and plans to major in Sports Management.

"Aalyasia brings toughness and experience to our team. She is an awesome young lady who loves the game of basketball," said Coach Raley-Ross. "I am excited to work with Aalyasia. I am thankful she chose to be a Wildcat!"
