CHARLOTTE, NC -- JWU Charlotte Head Golf Coach Chris Jones welcomes Samantha "Sam" Cornelius to the program for the 2020-2021 season. Cornelius transfers to Charlotte from Johnson & Wales North Miami. During the abbreviated 2019-20 season, Cornelius amassed four top 20 finishes in seven tournaments for JWU North Miami, and averaged a score of 84 for the season.
Prior to matriculating to JWU, she graduated from Penney High School in her hometown of Hamilton, Missouri. While at Penney, she finished top 10 in the Missouri High School state championships three years in a row, including a 6th place result in her senior season. She was a three time winner of the News-Press Now Golfer of the Year.
"I like the warm weather and year-round golf," responded Cornelius on why she chose Johnson & Wales. Sam is the daughter of Rachel and Sean Cornelius and plans to major in Sports Management.
"I am excited to have Sam as part of our program. She had a solid freshman year in Miami, and I feel that she will thrive here in Charlotte," said Coach Jones on the newest Wildcat golfer. "She is a great player and will be a great addition for our brand new program."
