Wildcats Set New Scoring Mark In Win Over #5 Central Penn

Pineville, NC - The Johnson & Wales University Women's Soccer Team took on Central Penn on Friday night. The Wildcats delivered a commanding performance, winning 9-0.

Central Penn, currently ranked #5 in USCAA D2, came into the game having only allowed two goals all season. The Wildcats, though, were able to get on the scoresheet early on their way to setting a new single game scoring record. Jaedan Smith opened the scoring in the 7th minute on a Danielle Doyle assist. Less than three minutes later Lana Truese found Ashley Lunceford for her first goal of the season. Truese followed up her assist by scoring in the 14th minute on another Doyle helper. After a red card for Central Penn in the 26th minute, Doyle finished the first half scoring with a penalty kick. The Wildcats (5-6) took a 4-0 lead into halftime.

Smith again started the scoring for the #9 Wildcats by notching her fourth goal of the season in the 61st minute. Doyle found the net less than two minutes later for her team-leading 11th goal. Aubrey Anderson added two goals in the 68th and 74th minute, assisted by Truese and Smith, respectively. Truese also recorded her second goal of the game in the 71st minute. Four different Wildcats recorded a multi-goal game, also a new record for JWU. Sarah Toler recorded the shutout for JWU.

"Great win for the team. Happy to see them step up for each other and manage the game," remarked Head Coach Matt Hisler after the game. "Communication throughout the team was a different level. I look forward to their continued progress."

JWU's next game comes on Oct. 18 as they host Washington Adventist at 8:00 pm.
