Pineville, NC - JWU's Homecoming celebration continued at OrthoCarolina Sportsplex as the Wildcats hosted Piedmont International University for a soccer double header. The women's soccer team took to the field first and dropped a heart breaker, 2-3.
PIU (4-9) notched the first goal of the game in the 18th minute when Ana Ordaz's shot was deflected into the goal. Then, in the 41st minute, the Bruins fired home another shot. Two minutes later the #8 Wildcats would get one back when Danielle Doyle converted a penalty kick to take the game into halftime, 2-1.
The second half began with JWU (5-8) on the front foot, taking the game to the Bruins. In the 58th minute Doyle recorded the brace as she took a pass from Aubrey Anderson and hit a long range shot over the PIU keeper to even the game at 2-2. That score would hold until the 71st minute when the Bruins scored again. The Wildcats searched for the equalizer and almost leveled the score multiple times, but it wasn't enough as the game finished 2-3.
Doyle led the team with 10 shots, eight of those on goal. Kylie Priddy recorded five saves for JWU.
The Wildcats return to action on Oct. 22 as they travel to #9 Warren Wilson College for a 4:00 kickoff.
