Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales Charlotte Women's Soccer Coach Matt Hisler has announced Melanie Barbee as the latest signing for the 2019 recruiting class. The defender from Kenly, NC was a four year varsity player for North Johnston High School. While at North Johnston, she was named team MVP, All-Region, and All-Conference. Barbee also participated in tennis and won the most improved award on the indoor track team.
Melanie is the daughter of Mary Kellie Dehart and Jeremy Keith Barbee and has two siblings: Lindsee Barbee and Danielle Bright. She plans to major in Business Management.
"I chose JWU because of the girls' welcoming arms and the big city. Having the chance to continue doing what I love and getting an education at the same time is hard to pass up and a once in a lifetime opportunity," Barbee explained about her decision. "I'm so excited to be joining such a talented team! Having a great coach leading us in the right direction, and I look forward to contributing to the team on and off the field!"
"I am really looking forward to working with Melanie this year. She is a tenacious defender with outstanding growth potential. She sees the field well and is unselfish in her willingness to work for her teammates," reflected Coach Hisler. "The increased physicality at this level will suit her game well and allow her to play more freely. Melanie will inject an extra level of toughness into our group that will endear her to her teammates and keep opponents on edge."
