Wildcats Open Home Slate With Shutout

Charlotte, NC - Hurricane Dorian forced a late schedule change to the JWU Charlotte Women's Soccer home opener Friday evening. The Wildcats were originally scheduled to play Regent University, but the Virginia Beach-based school was unable to travel for the match. Patrick Henry Community College was able to fill in at the last minute. The short-handed Patriots played valiantly, but fell to the Wildcats, 7-0.

Lana Truese opened the scoring in the game's 3rd minute, running onto a cross from Jaedan Smith for her 4th goal of the season. Eboni Montague, Smith, and Brooklyn Cathey also found the back of the net for JWU, as they built a 4-0 halftime lead. PHCC goalkeeper Juliana Batchelor made 9 saves on the night, with five of those in the first half to keep her team in it.

Truese struck again early in the second half to push the lead to 5-0 before Jaedan Smith tallied the final two scores of the game. Jah'Asia Pernell, Sarah Toler, and Sarah Bartlett combined for a clean sheet as JWU improved to 2-0-1 on the season. Patrick Henry Community College fell to 1-3.

The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow against defending USCAA Division II National Champion Cincinnati-Clermont. Kickoff is set for 3pm at OrthoCarolina Sportsplex.
