Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Women's Soccer Team hosted NCAA DIII opponent Brevard College on Wednesday evening, dropping a 1-0 double overtime battle.
Both teams had opportunities in the first half, with each team registering 6 shots. JWU keeper Sarah Bartlett came up with two saves as the period ended tied at zero. The second half was more of the same, with Bartlett and the Wildcat defense again keeping the Tornados out of the net. Jaedan Smith and Brooklyn Cathey would each force a save from Brevard keeper Rebeccah Rojas, but regulation would end 0-0.
After another stalemate in the first overtime period, the game progressed to double OT with both teams looking for the golden goal. The game looked destined for a tie until the 108th minute, when the Tornados' Brianna Link found the game winner. Bartlett finished the game with 7 saves for JWU. Cathey led the team with 3 shots on goal.
"Tough loss for the team. Our women showed significant improvement from our last game," said JWU Head Coach Matt Hisler. "This will be an important step in our team's growth. I am excited for them to take their next opportunity."
The Wildcats get that opportunity when they travel to Trinity Washington on September 28th for a 1:00 pm kick-off.
