Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Women's Soccer Team hosted #8 Christendom College on Saturday, claiming the 2-0 win on Senior Day.
The third ranked Wildcats took the lead early when Eboni Montague found Brooklyn Cathey who slid it low past Crusader goalkeeper Lucy Stanford in the 13th minute. Eight minutes later, Lana Truese found Cathey who this time blasted a ball into the back of the net to double the lead. It was Cathey's 9th goal on the season and Truese's 10th assist on the season, tops in USCAA D2. The Wildcats outshot the Crusaders 13-7 for the game, including eight shots on goal for JWU.
The seniors recognized for JWU include Nya Hill, Lana Truese, and Jaedan Smith. Hill, a defender from Cleveland, OH has started 65 contests in her career, anchoring a solid defense for the Wildcats. She is a Baking & Pastry Arts/Food Service Management major. Truese is a Sports, Event, and Entertainment Management major from Herndon, VA. She has started 64 games, amassing 38 goals and 34 assists in her time as a Wildcat. Smith hails from Monroe, NC, and has collected 19 goals and 14 assists at JWU in her four years. She is a Culinary Arts/Food Service Management major.
"We celebrated three amazing women today. Nya Hill, Lana Truese and Jaedan Smith. They have been keystones for our women's soccer program, its environment and successes," commented Head Coach Matt Hisler. "I am grateful that they chose to take this journey with us and could not have asked for better partners to work with. Each will be tremendous assets to whatever organizations they move on to. They will be missed."
The Wildcats are now 6-6-1 and play at Pfeiffer University on October 30th at 6:00 pm.
