Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales Charlotte Women's Soccer Coach Matt Hisler announced Karen Cruz-Rangel as the next member of the 2020 recruiting class. Cruz-Rangel is from Oakboro, NC and attended West Stanly High School. The center-midfielder captained the WSHS soccer team from 10th grade on, and was recognized as team MVP her sophomore year.
"I chose Johnson & Wales because I am a person who loves diversity and meeting new people from all over. I knew coming to Johnson & Wales I would be able to find that and live in the beautiful city of Charlotte," commented Cruz-Rangel on joining the Wildcats. "Johnson & Wales' academic programs are excellent. Their internships are very impressive. I see myself excelling to my fullest potential at Johnson & Wales. I am honored and excited to call myself a wildcat on and off the field for the next four years!"
Karen is the daughter of Maria Rangel and has two siblings, Aldo and Alan. She plans to major in Sports, Event, and Entertainment Management.
"I'm really excited to have Karen coming to join the team in 2020. Karen has a lot of experience leading and building her teammates up," said Coach Hisler. "On the field, she brings something different to the game and is willing to take audacious risks in final 1/3 of the field. Karen has excellent vision and the technical ability to put players in opportunistic positions. I am convinced Karen's ambition and drive to improve will take her and her team far over the next few years. I am looking forward to working with her and witnessing her growth."
