Salisbury, NC - The Lady Wildcats (3-2) (15th in the USCAA Coaches Poll) played in their second match of the tournament today against Edward Waters College. JWU played tough throughout the match taking the win three games to two.
JWU began game one with strong team serving to gain an early lead of 8-5. The Tigers were unable to stop the Lady Wildcats as they moved their lead by six points and taking the game 25-17.
Entering game two, EWC scored three quick points. The Lady Wildcats became more aggressive at the net taking the lead 7-5. A defensive lapse by JWU allowed for the Tigers to comeback 13-11. After strong net play by both teams, the game ties up at 16. EWC went on a 4-0 run and finishes game two 25-18.
Both teams went into game three with strong net play. Strong defensive play from the Tigers causes JWU to make many errors, which allowed for EWC to take game three 25-22.
The Lady Wildcats started game four strong at the net, establishing a 9-1 lead behind Reanna Bray. Moriah Hughes, Shanna Stewart, and Kaitlin Kuntz played steady to increase JWU's lead to 15-2. Maintaining tough defensive play, the Lady Wildcats win game four 25-12.
In the deciding game of the match, both teams started with excellent hustle. Strong net play from Hughes and Stewart, and consistent serving from Stephanie Harris, JWU went on a 6-1 run. EWC responds with a run that closes the gap by 1. The Lady Wildcats answers and closes the game with a score of 15-10 behind serving from Emily Kirchner.
JWU plays in their final match of the Livingstone College Tournament today at 4pm.
