Greenville, NC -- After finishing up her AP English exam, Cameron Leonhardt of The Oakwood School became the first 2015 recruit to sign officially to play volleyball for Johnson & Wales University in a reception at The Oakwood School on December 17. Leonhardt was joined by varsity team members, family, school officials, and friends, and they celebrated her high school career and watched her sign and accept a position on the 2015 Johnson & Wales Wildcat Volleyball Team.
Leonhardt is a 5'10" middle hitter who plans to enter the Culinary Arts program at JWU. Her 2014 Oakwood Team, coached by Tom Marsh, won the NCISAA 1A State Championship this season. Leonhardt earned All Conference honors in the Carolina Independent Conference in 2014 and was an integral part of the state championship journey. Previously, she played for the Coastal Plains Volleyball Club, and this season, she will prepare for her college career with the East Carolina Juniors Volleyball Club.
"I admire Cameron's fire, passion, and love of the game," said JWU Head Coach Callie Phillips. "I was privileged to see her state championship game, and I can't wait to see how her skills and attitude translate to the college game. Her blocking, hitting, serving, and approach to the game will be big assets to our team next season. Our team and campus are lucky to be getting a student-athlete like Cameron."
Leonhardt is the first recruit to sign in 2015, and she will join eight returning Wildcat players. Coach Phillips has very high hopes for this recruiting class. Be on the lookout for more volleyball signings soon.
