Ferrum, VA - The JWU Volleyball Team took on Ferrum College tonight in their penultimate match of the regular season. The Wildcats fell to the Panthers, 1-3.
Ferrum (12-15) jumped on JWU in the first set, winning 25-14. The #5 Wildcats battled back in the second, 25-17, to tie the match at a set apiece. In the end, JWU (14-14) didn't quite have enough as Ferrum took sets three (25-21) and four (25-22.)
"We had a very slow start that put us behind from the first ball. They dominated us in the first set, but we did the same to them in the second. The last two sets were closely contested, but in the end we made a few too many receiving and hitting errors to come out on top," said JWU Head Coach Callie Phillips after the match. "We are still learning how critical defensive positioning and overall fundamentals can be. We're striving for more consistency at the high level at which we are capable."
Toniya Scott led the Wildcats with 12 kills, followed by Iyana Favor with 11. Moana Reid had 39 assists along with 19 digs. Kendall Watson led the team with 22 digs.
JWU wraps up the regular season with a home contest against Sandhills Community College on Oct. 29 at 7:00 pm.
