Volleyball Drops Five Set Thriller In USCAA Tip-Off Semis

Monaca, PA - The JWU Volleyball Team was back on the court on Saturday for the semifinals of the USCAA Tip-Off Tournament vs University of Cincinnati Clermont. The back and forth contest saw the Wildcats fall in the fifth set, 3-2.

The first two sets were extremely tight, with UCC (5-0) taking set one 25-22 and the Wildcats taking set two 26-24. The Cougars would again gain the upper hand in the third set with a 25-16 win to go up 2-1. The Wildcats came roaring back, dominating set four 25-11. It all came down to the fifth set, as the Wildcats (4-1) battled but fell 15-11.

"We played hard and learned a lot in this match," commented JWU Head Coach Callie Phillips. "We would have liked to have gotten the win, but I really think the lessons we learned today will serve us well in the future. We'll continue to improve."

Toniya Scott led the team with 10 kills, while Moana Reid collected 31 assists. Demya Scott led the team with 14 digs, while Reid added 10.

JWU next travels to Ferrum College on September 3rd for a 7:00 pm tip-off.
