Rocky Mount, NC - The JWU Volleyball Team faced off against NC Wesleyan on Thursday evening. The Wildcats, coming into the match sitting at #2 in the USCAA D2 Coaches Poll, picked up their fifth win in the last six matches as they took down the Battling Bishops 3-1.
The Wildcats pulled out a close contest in the first, 25-23. The homestanding Battling Bishops (6-11) evened the match at one apiece with a 25-18 second set win. JWU would again gain control of the match in the third 25-20, capitalized by 15 kills in the set. The fourth set was all Johnson & Wales would need as they dispatched their opponent 25-19.
Iyana Favor led the Wildcats with 10 kills, with Isabelle LeMaster (.444) and Taylor Walker (.412) posting team high hitting percentages. Moana Reid collected a season high 40 assists in the win while also adding 12 digs. Demya Scott (13), Natalie Carpenter (12), and Riley Oros (11) also tallied double digit digs.
"I'm so excited for our team tonight. We worked hard and played well against a tough team in a tougher environment," said JWU Head Coach Callie Phillips after the road win. "It was a full team effort, and I'm so proud to see their hard work pay off."
The Wildcats (12-4) travel to Bluefield State for a tri-match on Saturday, October 5th. They will take on Alice Lloyd at 1:00 pm followed by hosts Bluefield State at 3:00 pm.
