Charlotte, NC - The JWU Volleyball Team hosted Piedmont International University on Thursday, falling 3-2 in the back and forth affair.
The Wildcats, ranked #2 in the latest USCAA D2 coaches poll, were dominant in the first set, hitting .571 en route to a 25-9 win. PIU would take set two with a 25-17 effort, and JWU (16-6) would take the 2-1 lead with a 25-22 win in set three. Again the Bruins would tie the match after taking set four 25-12. The match would come down to the fifth set, with PIU (12-7) edging out the Wildcats 15-10.
Toniya Scott and Iyana Favor both had 11 kills for the Wildcats and Isabelle LeMaster led the team with a .421 hitting percentage. Demya Scott paced the Wildcats with 18 digs followed by Moana Reid with 16, Natalie Carpenter with 12, and Riley Oros with 10. Reid led the team with 32 assists. Toniya Scott contributed seven blocks in the match.
"We always seek to learn from these opportunities, even when the lessons are hard," said JWU Head Coach Callie Phillips after the match. "We are looking forward to finishing our season strong with four home matches next week."
The Wildcats host Bluefield State on October 21st at 7:00 pm as they kick off "Dig Pink Week".
