Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales Charlotte Volleyball Head Coach Callie Phillips is happy to announce the signing of Springfield, VA native Logan Smith as the first member of the 2021 recruiting class. Smith is both a decorated player and student, and is an outstanding addition to the Wildcat volleyball team.
The daughter of Stephen and Lisa Smith, Logan plans to major in Baking & Pastry Arts and Food & Baking Entrepreneurship. She had a 4.0 GPA in high school in addition to achieving a 4.0 GPA while dually enrolled at Liberty University. She is a Johnson & Wales Presidential Academic Scholarship recipient.
"I chose JWU Charlotte because it was a school offering everything I was looking for and more. Having the ability to pursue my two passions of volleyball and baking in the middle of a beautiful city is better than anything I could have asked for in a college. JWU Charlotte is designed to help prepare you for your future career and as I aspire to become a pastry chef and bakery owner one day, it is the perfect fit to help me accomplish all of my goals in life," remarked Smith when asked about her decision to attend Johnson & Wales.
Smith's primary position is setter, and she captained her club team, St. James Volleyball Club, to great heights during her club career. St. James won the 2017 Northeast Qualifer Tournament and the 2019 Columbia 17/18 Regional Tournament. She played the past year with Metro Volleyball Club.
Coach Phillips is excited about what Smith can do, both on the court, and in the classroom. "Logan fills a positional need for us at the setter position, but more importantly, she is exactly the type of player we look for at JWU. She has demonstrated great character and high academic achievement, and she is ready to follow her dreams of being a pastry chef while playing college volleyball. I've been very impressed with Logan on and off of the court, and I can't wait to work with her this fall."
