CHARLOTTE, NC -- Johnson & Wales Charlotte Cross Country Head Coach Peter Brown has announced Riley Turner as the first signing for the women's cross country team. Turner hails from Clover, SC, where she recently graduated from Clover High School.
"I feel at home at JWU and love the passion there for culinary arts," said Turner when asked why she chose Johnson & Wales. She also added that she wants to own her own bakery/ coffee shop one day.
Riley is the daughter of Danielle Turner and Andrew Turner and plans to major in Baking & Pastry Arts with a minor in Food & Beverage Entrepreneurship. Riley's favorite quote is: "Every day is a new beginning. Take a deep breath, smile, and start again."
"I am excited to have Riley on board for our inaugural Women's Cross Country team," commented Coach Brown. "Although she has limited distance running experience, I believe her gymnastics background will allow her to progress quickly."
Johnson and Wales announced in October, 2019 that cross country would be added as a sponsored sport on the Charlotte campus, in addition to golf and tennis. The Wildcats will begin competition in the Fall, running against a strong slate of local and regional opponents.
