Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales Charlotte's runner-up finish in the USCAA Division II Women's Basketball Small College National Championships has enabled it to widen it's lead in the yearlong USCAA Director's Cup standings. The USCAA released the current Director's Cup standings earlier this week.
JWU now has a total of 582 points for the year, after adding 90 points from the total amassed following the Fall sports championship season that saw the Wildcats win national championships in men's golf and men's soccer, as well as earn third place finishes in volleyball and men's cross country. The women's basketball team made an impressive run to the national championship game in March, knocking off 4th seeded Penn State-Lehigh Valley and 8th seeded Penn State-Beaver as they posted the second 20+ win season in school history.
Bluefield State University has moved into second place with 432 points, followed by SUNY-ESF with 399.5 points.
The Director's Cup aims to recognize the achievement of member athletic programs that are both diverse in their sport offerings and who compete for national championships on a regular basis. The competition will conclude with the Small College World Series in mid-May where championships for baseball and softball will be decided. The eventual winner will be announced at the USCAA Annual Convention in early June.
