JWU Charlotte Athletics Wins USCAA Director's Cup

Winston-Salem, NC - Johnson & Wales Charlotte Athletics was named the winners of the 2022-23 USCAA Director's Cup at the association's national convention on Monday.

The Director's Cup seeks to recognize member schools that achieve excellence across the range of USCAA national championship sports. Teams that rank at the top of the standings both offer a diverse group of sports and also excel in those on the field or court of play.

 JWU followed up a 3rd place finish in 2018-19 with a runner-up finish in 2021-22. This year saw unparalleled success for JWU Charlotte athletics.

Men's golf earned the program's first national championship in October as they claimed a 24 shot win over second place Mississippi University for Women. Michaela Hawkins claimed the Individual Medalist title in Women's Golf to complete the sweep of the golf awards.

USCAA Fall Championship week in Virginia Beach, VA was another rousing success for the Wildcats. The men's cross country team claimed a runner-up finish at the national championships, while the women's team finished in 6th place. The JWU volleyball team battled their way to a 3rd place overall finish in Division II after taking out top seeded Cincinnati-Clermont in the consolation match. Men's Soccer capped off the week by claiming it's first national championship with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Berkeley College (NJ) in the Division II championship tilt.

Women's basketball continued the run of success as they knocked off 4th seeded Penn State-Lehigh Valley and 8th seeded Penn State-Beaver en route the Women's Division II National Championship game at the Small College National Championships in Petersburg, VA. The Wildcats' runner-up finish to Cincinnati-Clermont capped off the amazing year for JWU Charlotte Athletics.

Athletic Director Trudi Lacey sees the Director's Cup success as the manifestation of the hard work that our coaches and student-athletes put in on a day in and day out basis. "I am very proud of our coaches & student athletes' commitment to the excellence we strive to achieve at JWU Athletics Department. Winning the Director's Cup is a culmination of intentional efforts to be our best."
