Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte softball team played their inaugural home softball games against Southwest Virginia Community College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wildcats started quickly, striking for two runs in the botton of the first, and three more in the bottom of the second to build a five run lead.
Elise Rojas had two hits and two RBI in those two innings. JWU led 7-5 after three innings before the Flying Eagles scored eleven runs in the top of the fifth to build an 16-7 lead. JWU pushed one across in the bottom of the frame, but that was not enough, as they fell 16-8.
Aubree Warren and
Natalie Dickson joined Rojas with multi-hit games.
Magdalene Clotfelter drove in a pair.
SWVACC continued their hot hitting to begin game two, scoring eleven runs.
Aubree Warren led off the bottom of the inning with a single and then stole second, eventually scoring on a Rojas sac fly. JWU would add a second run when
Hanna Ciplickas singled to right, scoring
Patricia Byars. Following a scoreless second inning, the Flying Eagles scored nine more runs on four hits, including a Reagan McCoy 3-run homer. The Wildcats clawed one back in the bottom of the inning as Ciplickas brought home Rojas, who had doubled to right with two outs, but it wasn't enough as SWVACC won by a 24-3 score.
Ciplickas's two hits led the Wildcats in game two. She recorded her first two RBI of her career.
The Wildcats return home on Tuesday, April 15th as they host Johnson C. Smith for two games at 2:00 and 4:00pm.
