Portland, ME - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte athletic department continued its run of athletic and academic excellence during the 2024-25 year and has been recognized for both by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
The USCAA held its yearly national convention June 1st through 3rd, and recognized the winners of both its Director's and President's Cups. The Director's Cup was established to recognize USCAA member institutions that excel in a wide range of men's and women's sports for which the USCAAÂ sponsors national championship competition. The Cup sets out to highlight the efforts of an athletic program that is diverse in its sport offerings and who competes for national championships on a consistent basis.
The standings consist of results from the 2024 USCAA Golf, Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, and 2025 Basketball, Track & Field, Softball and Baseball National Championships in addition to points awarded for 2024 National Convention attendance and current sport offerings. JWU earned national runner-up finishes in men's cross country and men's golf. Both the Wildcat soccer teams, as well as women's basketball earned national tournament berths. JWU also participated in the national championships in women's cross country, women's track & field, and women's golf.
The Wildcats tallied 555 points to outdistance runner-up Lyon College by 18.5 points. The win marked the third consecutive Director's Cup title for the Charlotte Campus.
JWU student-athletes did not only excel on the fields and courts of play, however. The department finished runner-up in the USCAA President's Cup standings, the highest in program history. The President's Cup is given to the member institution that achieves the highest academic point total for the year. Rankings include: individual sport GPA, with the USCAA considering the top five from each institution, the overall department GPA and finally the number of student-athletes named to the National All-Academic teams.  Johnson & Wales's top five athletic team's average GPA was 3.57, with Men's Golf leading the charge with a 3.79 overall team GPA. The department as a whole earned a 3.33 overall GPA for the academic year, the highest since athletics began on the Charlotte campus in 2010. 45 Wildcat student athletes were tabbed as USCAA All-Academic team members, second most in the association. Christendom College edged out JWU to win the President's Cup.
