Overall, the Johnson & Wales University Women's Volleyball Team
tried their best, however came up short against Spartanburg
Methodist College. The final match score was Johnson & Wales
University 0 and Spartanburg Methodist College 3.
During the first set, both teams came out with all cylinders
firing. The score went back and forth between both teams.
Eventually, Spartanburg took control and won the first match
25-16.
Felicia Anderson and Daniela Olivero showed great defense for
the Wildcats. With Spartanburg leading 18 – 9 , JWU's
own Felicia Anderson, Taylee Tellechea, and Shanna Stewart sparked
a 7 point run late in the game. This run from the Wildcats was no
match for the defense from the Lady Pioneers.
In the second set, JWU came out slow and Spartanburg was able to
capitalize advancing the lead to 5-1. The Wildcats continue to play
slow and committed many defensive errors. This allowed
Alexandria Greer, from the Lady Pioneers to ignite a 6 point run.
With this run and consists errors from the Wildcats,
Spartanburg Methodist pulled away with the win 25-8.
The final set was very close between Spartanburg and the Wildcats.
The Lady Wildcats started out slow giving the Lady Pioneers a 6 to
1 lead. After this lead, JWU came back out aggressively and went on
a 7 point run to take the lead 8 to 6. However this lead was no
match for Spartanburg's number 12, Ciaralyn Edwards. Edwards picked
up the Lady Pioneers offense and was able to recapture the lead
18-12. The Wildcats had another run to pull the score within 1
but could not close the set. The Pioneers won 25-22 against the
Wildcats.
The Wildcats will next face Davidson County Community College at
Carolina Courts. This game will be on October 21, 2010 at 7p.m. and
will be the second to last home game of the season.
