On Thursday evening, the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University faced off against the Yellow Jackets of Allen University, as the Wildcats looked to record their first victory of the 2010-2011 season.
Early throughout the game, the Wildcats and Yellow Jackets would routinely exchange baskets leading to an exciting up-tempo pace. Allen University scored early off numerous fast break opportunities, as the Wildcats successfully pounded the ball inside leading to easy baskets for their post players.
As the first half progressed, the furious up-tempo pace would halt as each team would experience their fare share of hurdles and misfortunes. Allen University struggled late in the first half of putting the ball in the basket, while Johnson & Wales University would face stifling defensive pressure which lead to numerous turnovers throughout the half.
Allen University quickly adjusted their offensive scheme to produce more scoring opportunities for their offensive oriented players, while also converting JWU turnovers into easy baskets. Allen University entered the half-time break with a comfortable lead.
Johnson & Wales University entered the second half with an aggressive approach on the offensive end, but still struggled to effectively defend the numerous scoring options that the Yellow Jackets placed on the floor.
Although the Wildcats later went on to be defeated by Allen University were led by stellar play on behalf of sophomore forward, Michael Daniel.
Michael Daniel finished the evening posting his second double-double of the 2010-2011 season recording a team high of 16 points, 13 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block.
The Wildcats will take tomorrow off as they look to regroup, and rest as they prepare to take the hardwood again on Sunday January 30th, when they face off against Lynchburg College. Game time is scheduled to begin at 2pm.
