Johnson & Wales traveled to Danville, VA on Wednesday evening to take on the Cougars of Averett University. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were unable to take away a victory, losing to the Cougars 103-81.
JWU started the game off with multiple early leads over the Cougars. Wildcat, Michael Daniel played strong on the inside with good scoring from Bruce Lewis. However, Averett University had two separate 5-0 runs to take the lead over the Wildcats. JWU had trouble scoring as the Cougars increased their tempo and applied "full court pressure" during the first half to push their lead by eight points.
The Cougars took the lead further with four consecutive 3-point baskets. Going into halftime, Averett University was leading by 27 points.
JWU offense was much more balanced and consistent in the second half. Overall, the Wildcats had balanced scoring from the whole team. The Wildcats were able to play the Cougars more evenly throughout the second half but were unable to close the gap as the Cougars won the game, 103-81.
The Wildcats had many standout players in this game. Shaquille White had 12 points, Sidney Mitchell with 14 points, Bruce Lewis made 15 baskets, and DaShaun Alston had a total of 19 points. Michael Daniel had nine points and seven rebounds throughout the game.
The Wildcats will travel to Denmark, NC on December 6th to take on Voorhees College at 7:30pm.
