The Wildcats took on the Cavaliers of Montreat College this evening in the first home game of the season. This is the first season that JWU will be hosting home games on campus due to the new addition of the Student Center. Students and staff who attended the game showed great support and cheered on the Wildcats as they played in the new gymnasium.
The Cavaliers began the game by going inside and taking an early lead over the Wildcats. The Wildcats kept the defensive pressure on to stay in the game. Kareem Wilson performed well all-around, scoring 14 points, while Michael Daniel was a steady inside presence for the Wildcats. Dashuan Alston helped lead the Wildcats with 16 points. Going into halftime, the Cavaliers were winning by 13 points.
Going into the second half, the Wildcats continued strong defensive pressure, attempting to steadily close the gap between themselves and the Cavaliers. JWU had strong outside shooting from Bruce Lewis and all-around good play from Michael Daniel. The Wildcats sent the crowd into a definite frenzy by tying the game 61-61. The Cavaliers relied on their team's height and their own Dustin Harris to take the ball inside. The Wildcats fell behind with many turnovers, allowing the Cavaliers to pull away with an 87-75 victory.
Johnson & Wales will be hosting two home games on Friday, November 11th at the JWU Student Center. The men's junior varsity team will take on Belmont Abby's junior varsity team at 5:30p.m., with the varsity game following at 7:00p.m. Come support your Wildcats and enjoy a great evening of basketball!
