Johnson & Wales University played host to Central Carolina Community College on Tuesday evening. The Wildcats made quick work of the Cougars taking the match in three games. JWU now has a home record of 3-3 for the 2011-2012 season.
Game one began with JWU jumping out to an early lead behind strong net play and stellar defense. The Wildcats continued to widen their lead during the later stages of game one, eventually going on to win the game by a score of 25-11.
Johnson & Wales University started off game two the same way that they did in game one, this time the Wildcats followed the lead of Taylee Tellechea and Lauren Cordts. JWU also benefited from a solid service game and great communication on the defensive end of the floor, the Wildcats carried the momentum all the way through game two recording a 25-10 win.
Entering game three, Johnson & Wales University maintained their great play and produced an early lead and never looked back, recording a 25-14 victory over the Cougars of Central Carolina Community College. JWU would go on to win the match 3-0.
With this win, the Wildcats also set a school record for the most wins in a season with 4 victories.
Coach Phillips stated after the match that, "We were able to play aggressive tonight because of the passing from the back row, which allowed us to run special plays for our hitters." She also emphasized the effect that the crowd had on the outcome of the match stating, "I am happy with our consistency and play, and I want to extend a special thank you to the JWU Wildcat fans."
Johnson & Wales University will take the floor again on September 29th when they travel to take on Davidson County Community College.
