Box Score The Lady Wildcats (16-10) (Ranked 7th in the USCAA Coaches Poll) hosted the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College in JWU's final home match of the 2012 season. JWU held a brief ceremony to recognize Shanna Stewart, who will be graduating this May, and will not return to play to 2013. Unfortunately, Livingstone prevailed in the match, 3-1.
Both teams started game one fighting hard at the net to try to establish an early lead. The Lady Blue Bears went on a short 4-0 run, before JWU was able to score to stem the tide. Livingstone was able to keep a small lead over the Lady Wildcats and take away the win in game one, 25-19.
JWU got the early lead in game two behind strong serving. Unfortunately, the Lady Blue Bears were able to catch up and take the lead from the Lady Wildcats. Coach Callie Phillips called a timeout to regroup her team, and put an end to a 4-0 Livingstone run. The Lady Wildcats came out of the timeout strong, using a strong attack that caused a 5 person Lady Blue Bear collision on the court. Reanna Bray led the way on the attack that allowed JWU to tie the game at 20. The Lady Wildcats would take a brief lead, but Livingstone was able to close out game two, 25-23.
Strong team net play by the Lady Wildcats gave them the early lead in game three. JWU's front row had multiple solid blocks, which caused the Blue Bears to make mistakes. LC went on a 4-0 run to make the game close, but JWU turned the game around and pushed their lead to 6 points. The Lady Wildcats kept their momentum to finish out the game, winning 25-18.
The fourth game of the night would prove to be the last, as the Blue Bears had consistent serving thought-out the game. The Lady Wildcats fell behind early, and would not be able to catch up. The Blue Bears took game four 25-13.
Despite the loss, JWU closed out the home scheudule with a winning record for the first time in program history. Their 6 home wins also ties the mark set in 2011. The Lady Wildcats hit the road on Thursday, October 25 when they take on the Cougars of Wilkes Community College in the final match of the regular season. Match time set for 7:00 pm.
