Charlotte, NC - No. 7 Johnson & Wales continued their five game homestand Tuesday night as they hosted in-state rival Mid-Atlantic Christian (2-13). The Lady Wildcats made quick work of the Lady Mustangs, winning 3-0 and securing the first 20 win season in program history.
Kylie Marquardt served the Lady Wildcats to a 12-2 game one lead, highlighted by three service aces. A Madelyn Leonard kill extended the JWU lead to thirteen at 20-7, and kills by Marquardt and Sarah Slaughter helped the Lady Wildcats wrap up game one 25-11.
Game two saw JWU use kills from Leonard and Moriah Hughes to build a 7-2 lead. Consecutive aces from Hughes extended the lead to seven at 10-3. The Lady Wildcats closed the game on a 15-4 spurt, winning 25-7.
Hughes starred again in game three, as her three kills helped JWU jump out to an 11-2 lead. The Lady Wildcats cruised home from that point, taking the game 25-6, and the match 3-0.
Moriah Hughes and Madelyn Leonard each recorded 6 kills to lead the Lady Wildcat attack. Kylie Marquardt added 12 assists and 5 service aces. Stephanie Harris also recorded 5 service aces to tie Marquardt for the team lead.
The Lady Wildcats are next in action Friday night as they host the Family Weekend Tri-Match. They play Wake Tech CC at 5pm and Guilford Tech CC at 8pm.
