Box Score Charlotte, NC – 12th ranked Johnson & Wales (8-15) hosted the visiting Bruins of Bob Jones University (9-11) this evening in their first match up of the season. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were unable to add a win to their record, falling short 80-74.
The Wildcats opened the first half with a 7-0 keyed by a DeQuincey Bennett 3-pointer. Bob Jones answered with an 18-11 run to knot the score. The teams stayed in close contact with each other for the next nine minutes, until JWU pulled ahead by seven, 39-32. The Bruins scored the final basket of the half, a 3-pointer, to cut the Wildcat lead to 4.
Bob Jones used a 10-6 run over the first 4 minutes of the second half to pull even at 45. The next 9:30 saw the Bruins maintain a small lead over JWU. A 9-2 run during the next 3:15 allowed the Bob Jones lead to swell to 11 at 79-68. The Wildcats were able to cut the lead to 6, but could get no closer, losing 80-74.
Kindrick Anderson's 34 points led the Wildcats and set a new single game scoring record. He also pulled down 12 rebounds. Nick Crawford followed with 10 points and 8 rebounds. DeQuincey Bennett added 11 points and 4 rebounds.
The Wildcats are next in action on Friday, January 24th against College of Faith (NC). This game will be played in the JWU Student Center Gym with a tip off time of 7:30pm.
