Box Score Charlotte, NC -- The Johnson & Wales Volleyball Team came out swinging against Sandhills Community College Thursday. In a well-balanced attack, the Wildcats put down 40 kills on the night to take the match 3-0. Individual game scores were 25-22, 25-19, and 25-18. The Wildcat defense was tenacious as well with 5 players reaching double figures in digs. Tonight's win was a welcome rebound from a disappointing effort earlier in the week, and this gives the Wildcats momentum as they move into back-to-back tri-matches on Friday and Saturday.
The Wildcats were led by Lucy Herrmann with 10 kills. Reanna Bray had 9 kills, and outside hitters Erika Ross and Sarah Slaughter each had 7 kills. Sarah Slaughter led the defensive effort with 15 digs, while Summer Meredith had 14, Samantha Johnson had 13, Hailey Thrift had 12, and Jackie Clifford had 10. Hailey Thrift had 29 assists and 3 service aces.
The Wildcats (10-13) are back at home on Friday for a tri-match with Wake Technical Community College at 4:30 PM and Mid-Atlantic Christian University at 7:30 PM. This is the Wildcats' Pink Out event where fans are encouraged to wear pink to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Wildcats will be wearing their special-edition pink jerseys for the event and periodically throughout October. Saturday's action is at 11:30 AM against Morris College and 2:30 PM against Livingstone College.
